As much as I hate Facebook, I recommend joining a few of the groups for Grumman-owners. They’re far more active than most websites/threads.

Concur with Roscoe. Scott E. from FletchAir did my pre-buy and it was very thorough.
Common things I wish I would have picked up while there:
– New Nav light lenses
– Stickers! My airplane was missing all the Grumman stickers, they have some, but not all.
– New placards (if any of yours need replaced)
– Interior Plastics & Windows (if you need them). Costly to ship!Oh, and I hear they LOVE it when you bring them BBQ. 🙂

I see he’s out of the ICU! Congratulations, Roscoe! I know the road is a long one, but lots of people thinking and praying for you!

Robert, there’s a couple tips on Bondline.org Performance section, but I can’t testify personally. The biggest controversy I’ve heard is that taking off with 1/3 flaps helps. But that’s against the POH.

I’m looking into upgrading my stock lights. Am currently taking a look at these – anyone have experience with any of them?
Landing Light – Whelen LED Parmetheus Plus PAR36 14V (There is an even-brighter Whelen Parmetheus Plus G3 coming out soon – but not available until August-ish 2018)
Nav Lights – Whelen Chroma Position LED Lamp – 14V
TailCone – Whelen 7155411 14V LED Tail Light. Some folks have mentioned the Orion Strobe – but according to Whelen,
Beacon – Whelen Model 71055 LED Beacon for Cessnas – 14V
I also saw the GPA video about the Orion 500 to replace the tailcone recognition, however Whelen didn’t recommend this because of the mounting. They said the LEDs will “point” the wrong way. For anyone that’s done it – I’m curious whether that’s an issue.
Thank you!

Update: Finally received word that my medical is on the way. Today, my instructor and I flew it from the hanger down to my local airport. The airplane flew well, and looks amazing. The project was very challenging and rewarding.
Cost breakdown:
Pricing for the UV-Tinted Grumman Windows through Fletchair.
Windshield – $814.24
Side Windows – $232.00 each ($928 for all four)
Shipping $100
————–
Total for new glass = $1,842Canopy Plastics:
Vantage Plane Plastics = $454.00
Fletchair = 589.00
Freebies that came with the plane = $400?
Prep, Paint Supplies = $200
Hardware = $60
——————
Total Plastics = $1,703Headliner and SoundProofing (DIY-kit from AirTex) = $483.00
And now the fun part begins – enjoying the fruits of my labor!

After a test-taxi, I realized I had actually made the problem worse. So this weekend, I took the caliper OFF and examined the larger anchor pin and bracket and noticed a little corrosion . Maybe just enough to cause this noise. So I reviewed `Roscoe’s video here https://youtu.be/jMhFq76-8ss and did my best to clean the surfaces that rub. After cleaning, I added a bit of caliper grease to the inside of the pins, and (fingers crossed), so far so good. Really easy fix to this annoying problem! Thanks a bunch to Roscoe, my favorite Guru!

I loosed the AN-4 bolts that sandwich the caliper to the anchor plate ever so slightly and this resolved the issue. I’ll have you take a closer look during my next annual, Roscoe.

Excellent job, Roscoe! I love the look of the flat black around the windshield bow.

My Opinion. The Century 1 isn’t worth even the cost of the STC paperwork. Perhaps there’s a problem with mine, but the thing rocks you around like a baby in a cradle. While engaged, it essentially does small S-turns around the heading and makes me feel like I’m being rocked to sleep. I eventually just give up and hand-fly. Again, perhaps a glitch in the system. But I have a feeling it’s just a 40-year old Autopilot.

Thanks for the info, Dennis. Would you mind taking a photo of the Orion 650s on the wingtips? For the life of me, I can’t see how they would fit, even if I removed the existing strobe. I’d love to pull the trigger on this, but don’t want a complicated project. Picture of mine attached.
