[cotter] Ken, I’ve been wondering how one deals with the aluminum chips that will find their way into the honeycomb on the back side of the firewall when drilling the holes for any fire mounted item, such as these bumpers. Vacuum what you can and forget about the rest?

[cotter] I’ll guess the Maintenance Manual is not normal reading for aircraft owners, so I’ll pass along this quote:

The Gulfstream Maintenance Manual Revision 4, June 1, 1983, Section 61-1-1, Page 1:

CAUTION: DO NOT MOVE THE AIRCRAFT ON THE GROUND BY PUSHING ON THE SPINNER.

That’s the second layer. I worked the first layer, even with and concave to the front face of the firewall, into the cables and wires as much as possible. It exuded slightly on the back side.

What it should look like, using 3M Fire Barrier Silicone Sealant 2000+

Then there is the Ty wrap on the engine mount tube … cutting away.

You are supporting the argument that it is not necessarily about having maintenance and inspection performed by a “Grumman” experienced shop. Any, and I mean ANY IA should have rejected this brake system at the last annual. Perhaps it is more about knowing the character and standards of the person you have doing your inspections.

I had not thought of powder coating the baffling. But why not? I like it!
My local shop did a great job on the engine mount, but be sure to “plug” the bolt holes that attach to the firewall yourself, as they (the powder coaters) cannot be trusted (yes, they said they would do it.) Fortunately, my friend Dick Cannon owns a full set of tapered reamers, which removed the errant powder coating without touching the steel mount points. A beautiful engine mount.

What kind of “bead” are you using for blasting? Plastic (what size) or glass or walnut shell or soda or ?????

I’ve found my plastic, a blend of small through large particles, (of which I have an infinite supply) seems to be way too harsh for “soft” aluminum. That’s at 80 psi.

[cotter] I do the same, only with an iPhone 6+. I also have a mini, but I did not like how bulky it was between the handles of the yoke, so I keep it free.

While I had heard of the “pink” coloration of the cylinder due to overheat, and used to profess it as an indication of excessive temperature, I have never before seen such a graphic example of the color change due to extreme temperature. Thanks for an excellent photo.

Damn it, I hate when I have to read the fine print.

Thanks Richard. Exactly what I was looking, and hoping for.

      Tracy,

I cannot find a Cheetah on that list. Nor any AA5 aircraft.
