Yesterday I needed to run an additional wire from the panel out to the left wing. There is a grommet at the back of the wing root that I need to remove to get the connector through. I didn’t realize that this is a deep grommet that runs through the honeycomb. I ran the wire and now find that the grommet is not the easiest to reseat in the fuselage honeycomb. The rubber is old and not as pliable as a new one but seems plenty serviceable if I can get it back in and seated. Is there any tips or tricks to reseating this grommet correctly? Maybe I’ll have to buy a new softer grommet?

I eventually got this grommet back in place. It takes two people, one pushing from the inside and the other manipulating it though from the outside. With a little wire pulling lube it came through without much problem. Be aware though, this size grommet is not readily available from aviation hardware sources.
