N3899J was the N number of the Cessna 150 that was owned by my original instructor. I flew it through my instrument certificate which I got in 1978. My original instructor was key in getting me started in aviation. The airplane was flipped over in a landing accident in the 90s.
I put that number on the airplane to honor the memory of Clifford Matz who was my instructor. As I get older, I find it important to remember the mentors that helped me along and remind me to help others along. Nine nine Juliette rolls off the tongue nicely and reminds me of all the good people in my life’s journey.
