AA-1A N9428L has been abused.
It had a 8″ dia, 3/8″(ish) deep dent in the bottom of the wing when the owner (a friend of mine) purchased it. It still flew fine.
Then the instructor drove it off the runway, over the grass, over the taxi way (and more grass), over the access road (and more grass), then into the side of a hangar. He did manage to shut down the engine.
Soo… Spinner, cowl, and wing repairs.
We patched the wing, and filled the dent. We modified the cowl into a split cowl for easier maintenance. The plane flew better than before, like twice.
Then someone banged into the elev. trim tab with a pickup truck.
I changed it out, and within a week, someone did it again!
ARGH!!!!!
It hasn’t been in the air in over a year because of repairs and [Virus X]
…okay…
I needed to rant a little.
I feel better – thank-you.
