I recently had the misfortune of finding that the attachment point for the outboard aileron bearing bracket is call the Aft Wing Spar. I also was informed that it cannot be double drilled and was therefore unairworthy. Not to be defeated, I contact true flight aerospace LLC and obtained the technical data for a repair:
“Form a piece of 0.040” thick 2024 T3 aluminum to slightly larger than the aft spar section.  Clean up the back side of the spar and bond the aluminum plate to the backside of the spar with Hysol 9309.03NA.  Once cured, trim the plate as required for reassembly, re-drill the correct mounting holes, and reattach the aileron bearing bracket with screws of sufficient length to account for the additional spar thickness.”
Hopefully, none of you will ever need this. If you do, let me know and I can supply the letter from True Flight that I included with the 337.

Isn’t 9309 the purple adhesive? I’m sure there are many “Purple” adhesives but does this bring any attention to the White vs Purple adhesive used in the wings? Also would the 9309 be the preferred adhesive used in bonding other structural members in a repair or is there another that should be used like 9394?

What was the damage that had to be repaired?

        Hello Roscoe:
I detail the damage I repaired above in my original post, but:
The Starboard aileron bearing bracket in my AA5A is attached to the outboard tab of the aft wing spar. Apparently, in the original installation, there was a need to drill new holes through the spar. The A&P doing my annual said that it was not airworthy to have more than the two holes needed to attach the bracket. Per instructions received from True Flight Holdings (see above) I (my A&P) repaired the “over-drilled” aft wing spar and reattached the bearing plate.
I am not sure what repair Kyates needs to make.

Hello Mr.Rosche! I am replacing the upper left engine mount support, P/N 102069-1, was planning on using 9394 adhesive as the bonding agent with the rivets unless I learn of a more suitable alternative. Thank you for your attention. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Btw… still searching for information on what appears to be a “Crosby” O-320 mod done to this AA-1 many, many years ago. Not able to find the 337 record with the FAA and the log book fragments have limited reference to it. I am willing to repurchase the STC if this is the only way to get the paperwork and POH supplements ETC if necessary and not too expensive but it seems a shame for a plane that has been flying fo 30+ years this way.

If you are repairing the engine mount extrusion, we have a video on that.

If the engine conversion is STC SA1208NW by Maynard C Crosby, he is still around. Maybe Roscoe can help you get in contact with him.
If it was the Collier STC, SA4106SW, David Fletcher owns that STC now.

I found a copy of SA1208NW in Ken’s stuff. Twenty or so pages.

      FYI

Roscoe, any information on the “Crosby” STC would be great. Do you know if the STC is still available, at least the paperwork. Also is there any place that might have a record of airframes that the STC has been applied or sold to? I know this is a bunch of questions but I’m wanting the paperwork to be in as much order as I can make it. Your patience any any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Maynard would say yes it is, but the FAA says no. He lost all his paperwork a few years ago in a house disaster. I have a copy from Ken’s stuff but it will be a bit for me to scan the large format pages. There will be a small charge, hope you understand.

Have you been able to get that large format scanner set up? I’m still very interested in getting my Yankee paperwork up to snuff. I know you said there would be a fee so I would like to know what information you have for me, and i need to know how much I need to send to you, and the best means for payment. Thank you so much and fingers crossed here.
