I learned something new today while doing the annual on my AA-1B, I had the elevator tips and the end support brackets off for doing the inspection as called out in the new AD. I noticed that one of the bearings was spinning on the bracket. The aluminum bracket had worn and the Teflon bearing would spin on the bracket rather then fitting snug and having the torque tube spin in it (the bearing moved with the torque tube. I had this issue on an alerion bearing a couple of years ago and wound up replacing the bracket.
A neighbor that recently sold his taildragger AA-1A that he had for a very long time stopped by and he looked at it and said there is an easy fix that Ken Blackman taught him years ago. Remove the teflon bearing and cut a thin strip of aluminum tape and install it on the inside circumference of the bracket, under where the bearing would sit. This reduces the diameter of the bearing mounting area just enough to make the bearing fit snug. I tried it and it works!
