Hi folks, first post here as I am looking for some feedback on how well the Grumman Tiger will do on grass fields near sea level of 2500′ in length or so? I’m in the market for a 4-place family plane and think the Tiger might be the ideal bird. I’m used to sport planes and don’t particularly like the way the Cherokee family handles. That said, our base field is 2500′ of grass and looking at book numbers for the tiger it should perform on that field just as well as an Archer. We’ve got a Cherokee 180, Archer, and two Mooneys that operate safely and in the past a Grumman Traveler was based there as well. Using those planes as benchmarks can I make the assumption that in the right hands the Tiger would be fine as well?

      Thanks in advance!

I flew my Traveler off Grass (no wheel pants) with 2400′ length with no problems. When I got my Tiger it was okay in the grass as well (with wheel pants.) FYI

Keep things in your favor, go in as light as possible and be careful what you try and take out. Many fly to a hard surface airport to take on fuel and passengers for a trip.

now that may be an issue…home field is 5-min drive from the house…the closest paved strip is 30-min away. If I can’t get out while 200lbs under gross in a summer afternoon then this may be the wrong plane for the mission.
