Apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed, my initial search didn’t find an answer. I’m a new Tiger owner.

      1) Are there LED beacon light options for Tigers with the Red Rudder Cap assembly?

      2) Is a multidirectional tail light strobe a legal option to remove the incandescent beacon altogether?

Any information is greatly appreciated, thank you!

There may be LED bulb options for the top of the cap, but the Whelen series of combined tail/strobe will mean you can remove the flasher on the rudder entirely.

Anyone have suggestions on specific solutions that could be used here (LED under the red cap)?

I understand that the addition of a Orion 500 in the tail eliminates the need for the beacon, but I enjoy the look and it provides an opportunity for increased visibility.

WAT has an all-white Orion 360, but only in 28V. I thought about what another “upright” Orion 500 under the red cap might look like, but not sure it can be installed vertically or if it would provide appropriate coverage. ?

Except if you went down the path of installing a uAvionics Tailbeacon for ADS-B out. Then you are forced to keep a beacon on the rudder.
On my C-182 and my Yankee project I installed the WAT Orion 500 tail light / strobe combo on the tailcone (these both have ADS-B transponders). Note the WAT light can only be mounted with the mounting holes in vertical orientation. The Grumman taillight is mounted horizonal. This can be resolved two ways, you can purchase or make a bracket to correct the holes, or fill in the mounting holes, rework the tailcone a bit and drill new holes in the vertical orientation. This is what Ken Blackman’s shop did with the tailcone for my Yankee.
My AA-1B has the Tailbeacon, so it still has the jelly jar on the rudder (hmmmm, where did that red rudder cap go… That’s right, I sold it to Roscoe….).

I needed to solve the Beacon Replacement issue under the Red Rudder cap. I got my solution Via John Sjaardema at Excel Air Services. We used a a Aero LEDS Sun/Tail combo Position/Anti Collision Light 11-1260-12 available from Aircraft Spruce. Removed the Aero Flash Flasher Unit and Dummy Resistor, and legacy Strobe Bulb and Bracket. Rewired the the connector to the Rudder Cap to contain 12VDC and ground. John fabricated a new bracket out of 2024 and installed it in the same position as to old strobe bulb. See pictures for details. This is significant improvement over the the old Bulb and fits better, costs less and weighs less than the using the SUNBEACON II. Rudder balance was un-effected. -Dave Collier
