I have a 1979 AA5A with2025:11 TTAF. My motor has not been overhauled since new. Yes I realize it’s pasted the suggested TBO but also the calendar time. My compressions are fine, in the mid to low 70s and since I thinking of having it overhauled with the high compression pistons, I’d also like to know how (if any) I could increase the performance such as the Sensenich prop and the Power Flow.
I’m hearing different results and some the same. Any experience with any of theses upgrades will greatly be appreciated.
Thank you..!

Definitely recommend the high compression, saves you about a gallon an hour plus more power. You want Electronic Ignition over powerflow (they cost about the same) but the powerflow uses more gas and the EIS 41000 saves you another gallon an hour plus easier starts and high altitude performance due to the 70,000 volt spark and power advance.

Roscoe,
Thank you for your time to answer my question(s). I take it you do NOT recommend the prop..??
I went on Aircraft Spruce to see which application would be appropriate for my AA5A and found the following:
•EIS-41000 Direct Drive (non-impulse coupled)
•EIS-41000IC Impulse Coupled
Why I’m confused is because I was always under the impression the left mag is the “impulse” to start the engine. Can you clarify this for me. Sorry, I’m just starting to dig into this.
Thank you,
Kevin

Put the non-impulse coupled one on the right mag, then yo0u will start on both since the EIS controller fires at TDC during cranking.
The prop will be needed as a better airfoil and more pitch than the McCauley.

I put the powerflow on my 74 traveler recently. I didn’t notice much, maybe 30ish RPM increase static with the McCauley cruise prop. Sounds nicer though…
Fuel flow is maybe down .2 gph. This is with the high compression pistons.
Lots of repairs going on now but I think EIS will be on my list.
