Does anyone know the proper way to close up the engine connection after a vacuum pump removal? After my attitudie indicator tumbled days after a solid IFR flight I contemplated doing away with the vacuum system and putting in two Garmin G5s which are certified as an attitude indicator and a DG/HSI. Well, I delayed the decision and had my AI refurbished by the manufacturer. Turns out, during a solid IFR flight a few days ago my vacuum pump failed completely- zero suction while in the soup. I safely made it home – partial panel training works, but now I’m definitely going the all electronic route. I’m going have all of the vacuum system equipment pulled, but can’t find definitive information on how to plug the vacuum connection to the engine. I will ask my mechanic of course, but wondered if anyone here has removed their vacuum system. Appreciate any pointers or links to resources.

There is a cover plate that goes where the vacuum pump was and secures it. This is a Lycoming part and seals the engine case so no oil comes out. I have one at the shop I use every once in a while.

The adapter (the alum piece between the vacuum pump and the engine case) remains. Give me a call tomorrow and I will shoot a picture of it and send it to your cell phone.

      Cheers
