I watched the GPA YouTube video on replacing bead clamps with interest because 2 of the 4 on my Tiger have the “V” shaped crimp and leak enough that I can get up to 15 ppm CO in the cabin during climb (otherwise the mixture is lean enough that CO is essentially zero despite the leak). I would like to have my shop replace the clamps but they are rightfully skeptical of me asking them to do work differently than they do normally. So I would like to be able to give them either approved data or a pointer to the section of 43-13 that describes the use of the muffler sealant to lubricate bead clamps during assembly. I didn’t see it in the Tiger maintenance manual (although I could have missed it).

Also, what happens the next time they have to remove the clamps? Will the sealant part easily, or will they have to muscle the clamps to get them open?

You won’t find any approval in 43-13, I got this tip from Bill Scott of Precision Engines. Without the lube you stand a good chance of crimping the new clamps during install unless you tighten the bolts on each side evenly and really take your time.

BTW, you won’t find Mouse Milk, Creeping oil or any rusted screw remover in 43-13 either.

The sealant once the engine runs turns to a baked powder that breaks apart easily on removal, not an issue.

You do need to clean the area well liker in the video.
