Do we have any information on the FAA Notice Number: NOTC1827
      Grumman AA-5 & AA-1 Horizontal Stabilizer Issue?
Here is the link to the FAA statement:

I found this corrosion on my horizontal stabilizer aft stringer by boroscoping the tail surface today. May be worth checking on yours.

Corrosion discovered on the Right side horizontal stabilizer on my AA1B.
Left side is not as bad. Not sure where to go from here… replacements available, repair if that’s even possible. Suggestions appreciated.

      Left side horizontal stabilizer.
Concerned about corrosion throughout the rest of the airframe and how to take care of it.

Check the Service Bulletin and the service manual, the approved repair process is in there.

Fletchair has a large selection of spare tail feathers. The nice thing is the left / right / and vertical fin are all the same with the only difference is the location of the drain holes. By patching the old drain holes and drilling new ones, a left could be used on the right and vise versa. And a vertical fin could be used on either side with the addition of drain holes.

As far as the rest of the airframe, first the “Tap” test should be done, then based on what you have found so far use that scope on as much of the airframe you can reach. Another big area of concern is the top of the center spare under the wing walks. Then once any repairs are complete, find a shop that has a Corrosion X or ACF-50 spray system to coat the inside of the airframe.
