      Hi all

I have a 79 Tiger with the traditional 6-pack instruments. My attitude indicator is showing signs of old age and I’m considering replacing it with either the Dynon D10 or Garmin G5. I do have an IFR GPS however is it a GNS300 which is not a WAAS unit.

Interested if anyone has experience with either the Dynon or Garmin AI units as a replacement for their AI, and are you pleased with the decision?

      Thanks
      Charlie

      Charlie:

There is much discussion on the Beechtalk forum on this issue.

One thing I learned over there is that the G5 and similar inexpensive digital displays REQUIRE an input from the pitot static system. If you lose that input for some reason, you will also lose your horizon. That is why many folks keep their old air driven horizon as a backup. Another is that some installations do not allow the digital display to be the sole source of attitude information.
