Hi Roscoe,and all,
My AA1C has the STC for the 0320E2G engine SA2477SW
As the Max TOW is currently 1600lbs, i am seeking information of any previous STC which allowed an increase in MTOW to 1683lbsI am seeking approval from Australian CASA to operate the aircraft to 1680lbs, so any previous STC paperwork for a weight increase would be very helpful in supporting my engineering submission for a stand alone new approval.
I believe there was an STC for a weight increase to 1683lbs associated with an aux tank mod. Would anyone please have a copy of that approval?
I believe the owner of that STC has past away and his family are not contactable. Thanks Sonic

Sonic,
Not 100% sure, but I am guessing you are referring to the STC Ken Blackman had for the aux fuel tanks in the AA-1 series. Roscoe, Matt Wing or Jim Candeletti would most likely be able to fill you in with getting pointed in the right direction. Good Luck!

You have the Collier / Fletchair Engine STC. Unfortunately Jimmy Collier did not get a GW increase on the AA-1C (he did for the AA-1, -1A, and -1B).
The last revision of Ken’s 0-320 STC (SA4387NM) also has the 5% GW for take-off increase authorization, so that would take the max TO weight for the -1C to 1683lbs. See attached.Attachments:

Thanks Richard, this is most helpful.
Would I also be able to get a photo of the back of the STC with aircraft applicability?
Also if anyone has any other gross weight increase paperwork, for the AA1, it also would be appreciated.
Thanks again

Hello,
I am new to the GPA. My friend has just purchased an AA1C with the more restrictive STC SA2477SW. I want to help him apply the STC SA4387NM possibly through a field approval, using the approved data in that STC. To do that I need the installation drawings, KD-320-DL, from SA4387NM, to compare data. Would any of you who have that STC be willing to get me a copy of KD-320-DL? Since it appears that this STC will be unavailable to purchase for awhile, I would greatly appreciate it. I have already learned a lot from the GPA website, and hope to learn more. Thanks!

I guess I should have posted this to the Forum post, rather then the “Activity Stream”
Roscoe has been working with the family of Ken Blackman to acquire all his STCs for the GPA. He has the paperwork in with the FAA now for that transfer. As of the current time until this is resolved the STC is not available for purchase.
I have two AA-1s. I installed STC SA2477SW in my AA-1B some 38 years ago. And I am restoring an AA-1 which has Ken’s STC SA4387NW. I am familiar with both STCs. If you want to send me a private message with your contact information I can give you a call. -

I’m following this discussion too as I have Maynard Crosby’s STC for installing the O-320-XXX into the AA-1B but no GW increase beyond “use AA-1C weight and balance data.” Sure would be nice to get another 80 lbs!

If Maynard’s STC states for you to use the AA-1C Weight and Balance data on a stock AA-1B airframe with the 0-320 mod only, that means you gained 40 pounds over the stock gross weight. Except that would also imply that you gained a large increase in the CG range as is the case with the larger elevator on the AA-1C. I doubt that would have been approved without changing the elevator to the AA-1C / AA-5 Traveler elevator, which Maynard also had a separate STC to do that.
