The canopy cable in my AA1-C is missing and I was wondering if it’s worth replacing as the canopy works fine without it? It looks as though if enough slack developed in the canopy cable it would tend to fall off the pulleys and bind and to tension the cable periodically would take quite a lot of disassembly.

      Jeremy,

There was a service bulletin to remove them from all the 2-seater years ago.

      FYI

It was only a SB, not an AD. I reinstalled the canopy cables in my ’76 AA-1B about 15+ years ago when I was replacing the canopy. I check it periodically to make sure the cables are tight. I think I might have tighten them maybe twice since I installed them. Other then that they have never given me any problems.
I like it as it keeps the canopy rails in alignment with each other and does not allow any binding of the canopy. I can grab one of the lower corners of the canopy bow or the back of the canopy and easily open or close the canopy. As long as you check the cables periodically I think they are great.
