I recently got N9382L back in the air after 24 years of sitting. What a good feeling. Now I’m working out the remaining kinks that tend to show up on a project airplane after the first flight. Currently, I’m having an issue with the fuel gauges. On the ground, they work fine, indicate the correct fuel level. In the air however, with the engine at high RPM, the gauge corresponding to the tank I am currently burning fuel from will drop to zero fuel. Switching to the opposite tank will cure the problem after a minute or so, but then the tank that is switched to will do the same thing. When I blow in the fuel vent, I can hear the fuel bubbling in the tank so I assume it’s not plugged. The tanks do make a “thwump” sound when I get on the ground and remove the fuel caps, indicating a bit of pressure build up. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that might be causing this?

I just returned from picking up a Yankee project from Roscoe and Yankee Aviation. I hope to get this flying in the next year or so.
Attached is a schematic of the fuel system from the AA-1 owner’s manual. You can see that the vent connects to the top side of the fuel Sight Tube and runs out to the tip and connects to a fitting out by the fuel filler cap. My guess is that the line running out to the tip is partially or completely plugged. When you draw fuel from that tank the only way for air to enter the tank would be to suck it through the sight gauge. This would make it read empty.
Let us know what you find!
