Update on the AA-1 Yankee, I am hoping to bring back to life. Working on the fuel leak in the right wing. The wing came off pretty easily seeing as this was the second time I took it off. Spoke to the folks at FletchAir and got some helpful advice on removing the end plates and ordered new o-rings and stat-o-seals. Tank came apart with only the normal amount of cussing, just aviation standard. The inboard o-ring was seriously non-o’d. Should have it back together on Monday.

Great progress! I may be faced with that someday.
Make sure if you haven’t done so to check that rubber hose that ties into the fuel drain and change it while you have the wing off. -

Wing is back on the a/c. New O-rings, Stat-O-Seals, and ran “B” type fuel sealant around the endplates and bolt heads. The owner brought me a Semkit for that from the local supplier. Not my favorite seeing as I do not have the application tool but that was all they had so I got the job done. Came out nice and is holding fuel fine now.

Great, hopefully the last time that wing tank will ever need work done. Over all the AA-1’s have had a far better history of fuel tank issues over the AA-5’s. Can’t get a much simpler design. And I know I am an odd one, but I like the sight gauges!

Starting to prep for control service bondline repairs while we wait for materials. Right flap was the worst, just under the 30% minor/major cutoff per 125A.

John,
New and used flaps are available with no debondinbg.

All the horizontal control surfaces have some degree of repair needed. It’s probably a whole lot cheaper to have me fix them.
