Ok so I have owned a 2004 Tiger for 3 days and have been a GPA member for 30 minutes…..is the call ID for my Tiger : “Tiger N
1234” or “Grumman N 1234″..” My argument with the latter is that although there is DNA to the Grumman company, it was not made by Grumman
      Whats the call on this?

I fly a Cheetah and I always refer to myself as a Grumman, which I actually am. ATC will either refer to me as a Grumman or a Tiger, never a Cheetah and I never bother to try and correct them. So referring to yourself as either a Tiger or a Grumman would be expectable. It’s whichever you prefer.

The Controller Pilot Glossary Chart has Three Spots for us:
(Part of the Pilot and Controller Glossary). Available at: http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/media/pcg_4-03-14.pdf

      We are a Grumman AA1, AA5, or GA7.

      Basic radio call format:

Who you are calling (Miami Center)
Who You are (Grumman N1234) – (no type needed unless asked “Say Type”)
Where you are (30 nm east at 10K)
What you Want (Transition Airspace SE to NW)

      Other distinctions are lost.

      FYI

I fly a Cheetah and refer to myself as Grumman. However, ATC will refer to me as Piper or RV.

To avoid confusion, use the terms in the Controller’s glossary, your are an AA5.

      Cheers
