Ron- I just took a demo flight in a friend’s 1990 Tiger. Great and nimble plane but one thing seemed a bit troubling: Upon takeoff, he rotated at 55kts and then accelerated in ground effect all the way to 90kys (Vy). That took us just about the entire 5000ft runway with few options in the event of engine issues. I was told that this was necessary for acceleration and engine cooling.

I would have thought that acceleration in ground effect to about 60 or 65 would be adequate for both and would be safer in the even of engine issues.

Does the Tiger really need such a takeoff ?
