ParticipantI am having an intermittent flap failure to deploy. Checked limit switches and main switch, they appear to be good. It always happens when the flaps are fully up. I will go flying and they work fine on one landing then won’t deploy on the next. Have checked fuse, and connections, all seem to be good. Has anyone else had this problem?
Flap motor was making noise, and when tapped on worked, so replaced flap motor and the next time up same result.
Only good thing is I am getting lots of no flap landing practice.

ParticipantEric,
Just finished fixing the same issue on my 77 Tiger, it’s the common tab on the down switch, fwd switch/outer(left side of aircraft) tab. It’s the power into the switch, spent hours with contact cleaner, it would work until it didn’t. My son working on his privates was getting proficient on no flap landings too. Turns out the tab was cracked, Fletchair has them for $14 but you will have to change the crimp terminals, the new switch has wider tabs. Both my switches had a good amount of surface scale/corrosion on all tabs.Hardest part is reinstalling, getting the little 6-32 lock nuts on underneath was a bitch. Put a little grease on your finger to hold the nut as you try to get under.

KeymasterShop Monkey Matt did that years ago on his Cheetah. Not a fun job, but can be done. I think I have two more limit switches in stock. FYI

ParticipantWe had an issue with the flaps not raising, discovered the first time on a go around. One of the flap limit switches had to be replaced. The one we received from FletchAir had those wide blade terminals too. With not much room to work in the h-hole and with 6 or 7 terminals to change, we elected to carefully file down the new blades to fit the old terminals. I suspect the flap switch is the weakest link now. Good luck Eric.

ParticipantWe are having the same issue on our 1977 AA-5B. Replaced the flap switch and the lower limit switch and it worked fine for about a month. Now we’re back to the flaps lowering but not raising back up. From reading here, sounds like we need to replace the upper limit switch too. Stay tuned…

ParticipantTom,
It turned out it was my flap switch after all. I had it replaced and now it is fine.
