From this prototype, 43 distinct changes were made to get the ‘Yankee‘ or AA1 into production when American Aviation took control from Jim Bede in 1968.

Very cool I have N5902L which became vintage this year. It is a 1969 AA-1 with the original wing (symetrical) and have installed the Ken Blackman engine and prop STC along with Electroair Electronic Ignition. Combined with relocated battery to aft for CG issues and removal of ugly interior and new avionics as in G5’s and a GTN 650 this is a poor man’s RV with much more style!! Live on Grumman Gang!
