NEW —> We have arranged for an afternoon of shooting ‘Old West Period Weapons, Pistols and Rifles’.  It will be on a per round basis, so shoot as much as you can afford.  Rifle rounds are more expensive than pistols, but there is  large caliber, ‘Sharps 45-70’ which would be the most expensive round.

The range is open-range and near Eagle Pass, about 10 miles east of Cody Airport…no buildings no awnings lots of SUN….. (Sunscreen, hats, water)
Handgun Rounds will be 5/$1.00.  Rifle rounds still be figured.

  1. Gina and I won’t be able to attend Cody. She was in a bad auto accident 3 months ago and is just now going through the fitting process for a replacement for her left leg. Pick a good spot for next year, and we will see you there, Lord willing. Bob Hodo

  2. The wife just cleared me GPS direct, to “go and have fun.”
As soon as I clear my schedule at work, I’ll make reservations at the Wigwam.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

    Frank

    1. Got my schedule cleared at work, but I almost didn’t get a room… there’s some event going on next week, and most of the hotels are booked. Couldn’t get in at the Holiday Inn-Cody, or the Wigwam. I’m just around the corner, though, at the Western Rose.

      1. It was GREAT meeting everyone, after all this time trading E-mails and posts…

Thanks so much for making me feel welcome. I can’t wait for next year’s gathering!

    1. Well, if Brent is coming…then there’s my chance to fly a MT prop-equipped Tiger!

For those of you not from out West, one of the great customs at many western airports and even smaller airstrips is a Pilot Shelter. If you want to see and use a 4-Star example, visit beautiful Bozeman MT (KBZN), a mere 1 hour flight from Cody (and that’s missing all the rocks along the way). The Recreational Aviation Foundation built this peaked roof-patio apron structure, complete with multiple restrooms with large showers, a large BBQ with picnic tables & lounge chairs, and a large grassy area out front where you can park & tie down before pitching your tent.

If you want more info, give me a jingle.

  3. Luann and I will be arriving on Monday. Since we know how these things go, we are getting 2 days to prepare and enjoy the town before the mass arrival. We have some folks from the east coast also coming with us so the team will be able to have things ready for the rest of the folks. Should be some great parties in the cabins prior to the event, if you get a chance, come early and join in!

  4. Too early to know if we can do Cody. Gina and I really enjoyed Rough River, though. Skyvector is showing 15 hours to Cody from GADsden today, and 7 hours back!

  5. Jan and I will be arriving at Cody on Wed, June 23rd. We are looking forward to a fun and informative gathering and seeing lots of old friends as well as making many new ones. Other than “slinging meat” at the BBQ, I’m not sure what I will be doing to put the knowledge where it should be. Look forward to lots of good maintenance information and operational advice being “free for the absorption” so come with an empty head!

    See Y’all there!

    Ken Blackman,
    Air Mods N.W.

  6. I am so glad I was able to make it and get the day off from work. I could not have asked for a better group of people than the ones I was able to be with. I made several new friends and got to meet some I only talked to over the phone. I know no matter where I was to go and needed anything all I have to do would be to call one of them for help. And if anyone of you need anything call. Thank you all for a great time.

  7. I had a great time at RR and see now why it has been a popular venue for past fly-ins.I enjoyed meeting those I did not know, had only talked with on the phone, and all those I have known for years. The wesather (at least there over the weekend) couild not have been better. There were problems all around and a day or two earlier or later could have spelled real trouble but we got lucky for the weekend. It will take a while for all the chips to fall into place with this group but Ithink it is off to a good start.

I will be helping host a “Grumman Corral” during the Arlington Fly-In (Arlington, WA – KAWO) next month on July 10, 11, & 12. I secured our space for an estimated 20 airplanes and we can erect a tent (Costco Garage type) by the planes. We will be nextto the Cherokee Club that has made this venue their annual meeting spot.

We will be instructed to make signs to flash, on arrival, with something like “GMN” in large block letters so the round boss crewmembers can direct you to the designated area. We will be able to have a cook-out in a designated area on Friday Night so look forward to that. Expect Dan Baisley and Don Otis (and yours truly) to be fliping burgers, Chicken, and “Beer Brats”.

Barb Talbot (the airshow boss) is gdtting it all coordinated and final detais will be coming soon. She told me they are going to have a special event that evening that should be great to watch, ” A Baloon Glow” which they have not had for several years. Saturday night will be a “Piro-Technic Airshow” to light up your life.

One thing to mention is an offer made by the Cherokee People (aircraft owners, not the tribe) to join them on a 2 masted Schooner cruise out of Friday Harbor on Friday afternoon. They would fly to Friday Harbor airport around noon, walk the short mile to town and board the vessel. It leaves the dock at 2:45 and returns at 5:45. the charge is $60.00 per person and there is still room for about 12 people. I would estimate by the time they get back, walk to the airport, fly back to AWO, and get parked it would be pushing 8:00 so that could make it pretty tough for our BBQ dinner plans. I told them I would offer it anyway. It does sound like great fun, I wish it were earlier in the day.

Please let me know if you are planning to make this event. It will be an open event for all Grumman American, and the likes thereof, folks so I hope to see lots of you there. I am available at 425-334-3030, Guru@airmodsnw.com, or just yell really loud.

  8. Well, I talked Gina into coming along! Waiting for this front to move across my 358 degree course-line. Should be there early afternoon today.

    Bob Hodo

  9. As chairman of the Kentucky EAA Sport Aviation Weekend, I would like to welcome your group to Kentucky. Rough River is a great location for a fly-in. In fact, we are hosting our 40th annual event this year in September. Enjoy your visit and have a great time flying over the Bluegrass State.

  10. Luann and I are bringing a ton of food and we got 40 ears of whole corn for each of the two nights. Come and help us make it disappear. BTW, Saturday night, Ken ‘Guru’ Blackman is our grill master.

  11. I’d like to tell every one to have a great meeting there, I regret that i
can’t be there as I’m retires and it a long way to come from Everett Wa.
Please give my best to all and my longtime Friend Jim Bede.

  12. Looking forward to it!

Lynn and I will be arriving Friday afternoon and staying thru Sunday Morning.

Any semi formalized daily agenda yet so I can see what I’ll be missing earlier on Friday?

  13. Just made my reservation (today is 6.5.14). Will be alone as far as I know. Wife makes a blueberry and cream cheese desert dish that gets wiped out everywhere we take it.

    Bob Hodo, GADsden, AL

  14. Great Idea – Go Go Go !!!! Wish I could be at Rough River but have other commitment !!

    Daryl & Karen Austermiller 1979 Tiger N28981

  15. I made reservations a couple of weeks or so ago. I look forward to seeing lots of friends and making new ones. Many of the people I communicate with on the Grumman Gang and through Air Mods N.W. calls remain faceless until I finally meet them at events and gatherings.

    See you there!

  16. Is this the way to sign up to be a member/associate or whatever ??

Will look at the location and might make it to the get together in June….

  17. That’s 1696nm from our home base in Independence, Oregon.
Hope the weather is good, looking forward to visiting.
I’ll try to bring a lasagna for the pot luck, Friday night.

  18. I would love to be there, but I’ll be flying from Ohio to Washington State that week. Will we be having local flyins this year? I know I’ll be travelling a lot, but would love to make the ones I can when in the area.
    Bob, AA-5A based at 5G7

  19. G’day. Would love to come, but it’s a little far, my daughter would be a bit annoyed if I was away on her birthday (15th June) and I haven’t won the lotto yet and I’m still having chemo – probably for the next year or so. Sigh. I’m fine though 🙂

    1. I just joined, would love to come, plans already made with family.
Look forward to making the next one.
I do want one of the Monkey Shirts.
